Don't Skip Meals

Why do people feel like if they skip a meal, they will lose weight faster? Even though you skip a meal, eventually you will end up eating just as much as you would normally do in a day over a different meal. Research says that skipping meals during the day and eating one large meal in the evening result in potentially metabolic changes. I know that people do have a busy schedules and try to lose weight, but the amount you eat on your next meal will affect your health overall. Try to eat regular meals that include 5-9 serving of fruits and vegetables each day as well as a variety of nutritious choices from the entire basic food group. Eating high-fiber/low-fat meals and exercising 30-60 minutes most days of the week are very healthy ways to lose weight. Posted by: Jowana George

New Year Coffee
I like to start off my mornings with a cup of coffee I brewed myself. You would think it’s understandable right? That’s how I wake myself up in the morning, stay alert and stay awake for the rest of the day. It also helps my insomnia at night because I crash at the end of the day and drift off into a deep sleep till the next morning. Now as the years pass, not only do I start off my mornings with a cup of coffee, I have to go to Starbucks or Pete’s Coffee to get another cup in the afternoon, or I won’t last the day. Do you know how much money that I can save if I drink that in the afternoon? And people always tell me that coffee stunts your growth. Well... I stopped growing at the age of 16, so that is not my concern. But I do notice that I need to use the bathroom more which also requires me to drink more water. Did you know that caffeine causes dehydration? I noticed it but it never crossed my mind. The caffeine is actually starting to keep me up at night because I drink more than one cup. I need to change my habits. Since it’s a new year, I’m going to use this to my advantage to start fresh. For my new year resolution of 2013, I’m going to cut down on my coffee intake and eventually stop drinking coffee altogether. But to start off slow, I’m going to just cut down my coffee intake to save money. That’s my motivation. Alright! Let the new year begin with one cup of coffee and that’s all! Posted by: Susana

Hand-wipes Safety

Have you been to safeway or trader joes recently and noticed that there are hand wipes all over the walls for you to use? They are becoming more popular recently. Some argue that hand wipes don’t actually kill any germs on your hands, and some would argue that they do. Be careful, because some wipes are meant for surfaces only. You might use those thinking you are killing germs and staying clean but they’re not meant for that. Also, make sure you only use one wipe once. If you re-use it, that is not going to help you at all. People are constantly trying to create new ways to keep your hands clean, without having to go to the sink and fully wash them with soap and water. So, be on the look out but before you start to use that product make sure you know what’s actually in it and what it is doing to your body.

Warm Water Vs. Cold Water

Some people worry that washing their hands in cold water doesn’t kill any bacteria on your hands. By doing some research online, I found that the temperature of the water actually doesn’t really matter. By waiting for the water to get hot, you’re actually just wasting a lot of water. If you prefer it to be hot, that’s fine, but that’s just for your comfort, and it won’t actually kill more germs than if you were to use cold water. It’s up to you, but keep in mind your comfort and also that we need to be saving water. If you want to see more, go to http://articles.sun-sentinel.com/2009-11-02/health/sfl-hand-washing-101209_1_hot-water-washing-antibacterial. There are plenty of myths about hand washing, so make sure you are sure about which ones are true and not.

Hand Sanitizer
Hand Sanitizers is the second best way to get your hand clean and germ free. When going out you should always carry a bottle of hand sanitizer with you at all times because people bite their nails, hands be looking disgusting to eat your food. Lets say you are at the park having a picnic and you need to wash your hands to eat and you are not by a sink, so you go in your bag and pull out your hand sanitizing bottle. You have your own portable sink with you without water and soap, I mean what would you do if you have germs on your hands and you are putting your hands in your month, on your food, and everything else you had touch. See here is the kicker with hand sanitizer and what makes them so fun is that they come in different colors, sizes, smell, and even come in a spray bottle. Hand sanitizer can be your own personal germ-free friend. You can get girly ones and the nasty smelly ones that you do not know that smell until you buy it. However, no matter what you do it is always better to wash your hands.

Why Clean Hands Are Important!

Hand washing is extremely important. Why? So you can keep clean, and healthy. A lot of people forget the healthy part. There are thousands of germs around you everywhere you go throughout your day, and there are constantly colds going around. The best way to prevent getting sick is to wash your hands. Think of how many things you touch a day, and how many people have touched those things too. You don’t need to be obsessive about it, but it’s important to wash your hands every time you use the bathroom, or at least throughout your day so that you can prevent getting sick. This doesn’t mean turn on the water, put your hands under the water, and you’re done. Actually use soap and take the time to thoroughly wash your hands.
